For the Nick Kids.
If you’re reading this then I want you to know I wrote this book for you. I say that because if you’re reading this then I think it’s safe to assume you’re a lot like me: you grew up watching Nickelodeon and it provided you with special memories and made a lasting impact on who you are today. You probably get “Nick Nick NickNick NickNICK Nick Niiiiick, Nickelodeooon,” stuck in your head and still feel a fleeting spark of excitement on Saturday nights because of SNICK. Even after all these years, all of these decades.
As an adult I wanted to explore why Nickelodeon left such an impression on kids in the 1980s and ’90s. What exactly was it about the channel that felt so special then? More importantly, how did it become so special, especially in the 1990s?
I went back to the beginning of the channel and uncovered the answers to these questions in Becoming Nickelodeon. They gave me a whole new reason to love the Nick I grew up with by adding another layer of magic: the people behind the scenes.
I want to share the story and people behind Nickelodeon with other Nick kids who are nostalgic for the channel of their childhood. I’m so confident that you’ll enjoy it that I’m sharing my book for free. If you’re moved to support my work and buy the book, I’d be deeply grateful. If not, just share the blog here with a fellow Nick kid who’d appreciate it and I’ll be just as grateful.
Feel free to share your thoughts on the blog posts or book, or just share your Nickelodeon memories. I’d love to hear them: jasonmcfiggins@gmail.com
Green slime forever,
